MACC records statement from former prime minister's son

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that the commission had recorded a statement from the son of a former Prime Minister yesterday (Jan 17), believed to be over his business ventures in the late 1990s.

A source from the MACC when contacted said the individual was called to give his statement, including declaring his assets in the country and abroad.

The investigation is believed to be over the individual's purchase of a Government Linked Company's (GLC) subsidiary.

"The investigation requires the individual to declare all his assets, either in the country or outside the country, in writing," the source told Bernama.

Media reports claimed that the MACC had called up the individual last month in connection with claims of bribery and corruption.

It was reported yesterday that an individual, believed to be the child of a former prime minister, is currently under investigation by the MACC , linked to business activities in the late 1990s.

It is understood that the investigation is focused on a company owned by the individual which had allegedly acquired a subsidiary of a government-linked company (GLC).

Berita Harian was informed that the MACC had summoned the individual to declare all of their assets, whether within or outside the country.

Sources also told BH that the individual had been called to the MACC headquarters to be served with a notice of asset declaration.

"The investigation requires the individual to declare all their assets, whether within or outside the country in writing," said the source to BH yesterday.
