Authorities bust stores selling fake printer cartridges

GEORGE TOWN: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) raided four shops selling fake printer cartridges and toners here yesterday, seizing RM245,000 worth of goods.

The raids were conducted at Sungai Pinang and Jalan Perak here, which lasted four hours from 9pm to 1am.

A woman, in her 50s, and her son, in his 20s, were arrested during one of the raids.

State KPDNHEP enforcement officer Sapiah Mohd Nor said they also found several boxes containing original printer cartridges during the raids.

“They refill the empty cartridges with fake ink and sell them together with the original ones. They do this when customers pre-order from them.

“They have been operating for five months and their items are catered to the Penang market,” he said in a statement today.

The case is being investigated under Section 8 of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.
