Sabah to have rural health clinic in Kampung Pulau Tetabuan

BELURAN: Sabah government is proposing a rural health clinic at Kampung Pulau Tetabuan near here to provide services for more than 1,000 people on the island.

State Health and People’s Wellbeing minister Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt said the building costing about RM300,000 will see villagers getting treatment without using boats to go to Beluran hospital.

He was confident that the proposal would be approved as it was in line with improving quality of the people’s wellbeing.

He added that the construction was expected to take place next year.

Wong was speaking to the media during a working visit at Kampung Pulau Tetabuan here yesterday.

Wong said the people had been asking for the facility for the last three years.

Present was State Health director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi.

Meanwhile, its village chief Ansain Baharun said the people were hoping the government would expedite the proposal so that people could get treatment easily.

He said they normally spend RM100 each time they go to hospital by taking the 30-minute boat ride.

“Besides gave birth on the boat, there was also a senior citizen who passed out enroute to hospital.

“It is even more difficult to take the boat at night when it is low tide,”he added.
