MACC records statement of Zahid's son-in-law

PUTRAJAYA: A source from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) informed that the graft busters recorded the statement of Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's son-in-law today.

Datuk Saiful Nizam Mohd Yusoff who is married to Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid was called in to have his statement recorded with regard to Yayasan Akal Budi funds being misappropriated.

Ahmad Zahid who is Umno president spent more than eight hours at the MACC headquarters, here, yesterday and was asked to come in again today for further questioning.

"Yes, MACC today called in Ahmad Zahid and his son-in-law to have their statements recorded," the source said.

Yesterday, the MACC had also recorded the statements of Nurulhidayah and Ahmad Zahid's brother Datuk Seri Nasaee Ahmad Tarmizi to assist in investigation into the same case.

Meanwhile, as at 3pm, Ahmad Zahid who arrived at 9.16am has yet to finish giving his statement.

His daughter was also spotted here this morning, having arrived at 9.20am.

It is learned that Saiful Nizam's session ended at about 1pm.

This is Ahmad Zahid's fourth session with the MACC, with the first one in July.

According to previous reports, Ahmad Zahid had been asked to explain claims that RM800,000 in Yayasan Akal Budi funds were used to pay off credit card bills belonging to him and his wife.

Zahid is the chairman of Yayasan Akal Budi, a foundation that was set up in 1977 with the aim of eradicating poverty.

He has denied allegations of any wrongdoing, saying his officer had mistakenly used the foundation's money to pay off the credit card bills. Ahmad Zahid had also said he reimbursed the foundation in 2016.
