KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno Supreme Council member has told Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to set a good example by persuading his son-in-law to return to the country and face the law.
Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi was referring to the investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) into businessman Datuk Seri Muhammad Adlan Berhan.
Muhyiddin, said Puad, should not let Muhammad Adlan be turned into another 'man on the run' similar to that of fugitive businessman Jho Low, whose real name is Law Taek Jho, in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.
"Muhyiddin's son-in-law, Adlan Berhan, must be brought home immediately to face all the charges. He must clear his name in a dignified manner.
"Muhyiddin must also set a good example. He is the former prime minister and that he still wanted to return to the position. He must persuade his son-in-law to return home.
"Muhyiddin will be perceived as trying to hide the Jana Wibawa case if his son-in-law continues to be a 'pelarian' (man on the run)," said Puad in a statement today.
The people, Puad claimed, are questioning whether it is Muhyiddin, the MACC or the police who are responsible to bring home Muhammad Adlan.
"The MACC said the commission has enough evidence to prosecute Adlan Berhan. Adlan should not be allowed to be another 'man on the run' like Jho Low," Puad said.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki yesterday confirmed that the commission has completed its investigation and prepared several criminal breach of trust charges against Muhammad Adlan.
He, however, said the commission was unable to proceed with the prosecution since Muhammad Adlan has yet to be located.
