Melaka CM: No need for Norhizam to resign

AYER KEROH: The Melaka state government does not see a need for its Agriculture, Entrepreneur Development and Agro-Based Industry exco Norhizam Hassan Baktee to resign following the controversy of him locked in an argument with several members of the public.

In the incident, a video of it had gone viral showing Norhizam arguing with several residents over the closure of two alternative roads in Taman Akasia, Pengkalan Batu.

Chief Minister Adly Zahari said as a new state government, he hoped that its leaders, including Norhizam, would be given the chance to improve.

"This improvement is not only for us, but to the whole government system as well.

"For me, this exco (Norhizam) has served excellently over the past few months, in fact he is one of the most active exco members and he goes down to the ground almost every day.

"Only thing is that his approach and methods should be improved from time to time," Adly said when met at Seri Negeri, here, today.

Adly was commenting on Netizens' comments of which many had expressed dissatisfaction over how Norhizam, who is also Pengkalan Batu assemblyman, had handled the questions raised by residents near Kampung Pulau Nibong. Some have even called for Norhizam to resign.

Meanwhile, on the need to reshuffle the state's exco line-up, Adly briefly said there was no need for that.

Yesterday, Norhizam apologised for what had happened.

The DAP assemblyman agreed that the incident which had gone viral had affected his image as a civil servant and a representative of the government.

The apology was made at a joint press conference with about 10 resident of Kampung Pulau Nibong organised by state DAP in Seri Negeri.

The meeting saw Norhizam, who is also state DAP deputy chairman, and the residents shaking hands and burying the hatchet.
