Proposed new taxes still under discussion: Azmin

SHAH ALAM: Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said today the government has yet to make any decision on the proposed new taxes as it is still at the discussion stage.

He said the priority of the Pakatan Harapan government now was to make sure that the people are not burdened, especially those in the B40 group.

The government is identifying the best and most innovative mechanism to increase national revenue.

“We do not want to burden the people, especially the B40,” he said at the Bicara Minda interview on the topic Economy: Well-being for All’ here.

Last Tuesday, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the government had to find other sources of funds to pay its debts, including imposing new taxes and selling several assets.

Dr Mahathir said, however, that the new tax regime was different from the sales and service tax and would not burden the people. – BERNAMA
