Johor says 'No' to MBPG's proposed 50pc hike in assessment tax

PASIR GUDANG: The Johor state government disagreed with the proposed surge in assessment tax rates between 40 to 50 per cent, set to be implemented by the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) next year.

State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the hike in tax rates will burden property owners, thus the state government is currently examining the matter.

"We are aware of the grievances and complaints from residents within the local authority areas involved, as the proposed increase is relatively high.

"A maximum hike of 40 per cent has been put forward, adding that the state government would take the public's concerns into account before making a decision.

"Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz, will make the final decision, so let's wait for it," he said.

Earlier, Pasir Gudang residents had opposed the proposed surge in property assessment taxes estimated between 40 to 50 percent which was deemed sudden and exorbitant.
