Investigation into Tanjung Malim train collision underway

KUALA LUMPUR: An investigation into this morning’s collision between two trains at the Tanjung Malim KTMB railway station has begun.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he has received an early report on the incident and an investigation is ongoing to identify the cause of the collision.

“A thorough investigation is carried out when an incident like this happens, and from the investigation, we will know who is responsible for the accident.

“But as of now, I cannot give any conclusion, as the investigation has just started.

“I look at… accidents involving trains (very seriously),” he added.

Loke was commenting on the collision between a commuter train and a cargo train at Platform 2 of the Tanjung Malim railway station 6.02am today.

It was reported that five passengers were slightly injured in the incident.

Despite the mishap, Loke stressed that trains are the safest mode of transportation, hence, this morning’s accident should not have happened.

“We have a signalling system and other systems which prevent such incidents,” he added.

In a statement issued today, KTM Berhad said the 30-wagon cargo train was heading from the Jalan Kastam station to the Ipoh Cargo Terminal, while the commuter train was scheduled to depart the Tanjung Malim station at 6.05am for the Port Klang station.
