Johor quarantines eight who were exposed to diphtheria baby

JOHOR BARU: Johor health authorities have quarantined eight people who developed symptoms of diphtheria after coming into contact with a baby girl who died of the disease on Oct 15.

One of the eight people is the 14-month-old girl’s mother, Johor Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee chairman Dr Sahruddin Jamal said today.

The Health Ministry reported on Wednesday that the girl was not immunised against diphtheria, as her family had objected to it.

Meanwhile, state director of health Dr Selahuddeen Abd Aziz has advised parents to have their children immunised, saying that the ministry can make the necessary arrangements for them to do so.
