Pos Malaysia honours Kedah Sultan in special stamp series

KUALA LUMPUR: Pos Malaysia Berhad (Pos Malaysia) has unveiled its special stamp series to commemorate the proclamation of the Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah.

Stamp and Philately Unit Head Diyana Lean Abdullah said that the set comprises three stamp designs (each 60 sen): image of the Sultan dressed in his official Muscat attire; Military attire; and the national attire.

Diyana said the series was created to pay a special homage to Sultan Sallehuddin on his proclamation as the new ruler of Kedah.

"Therefore, via this series, we created a special stamp size of 30mm x 50mm compared to the usual stamp size of 40mm x 30mm," she said.

The Miniature Sheet (MS) features the Sultan and Sultanah garbed in their Royal Yellow Songket attire with the Anak Bukit Palace's throne in Alor Setar as the background. It's priced at RM5 apiece.

The Sultan of Kedah's Royal Regalia will be featured along with metallic gold printing technique on the MS.

Other Philatelic products include the First Day Cover (FDC), inclusive of free brochure, which is available for 50 sen; and a folder priced at RM6.

The complete folder set of this stamp series costs RM54.80.

Diyana added that only 230,000 pieces of each stamp design have been printed (690,000 pieces in total); while 33,000 pieces of the FDCs, 25,000 pieces of MS, and 3,300 pieces of folder sets were manufactured.

"We encourage all stamp collectors and members of the public to grab a copy immediately, as there will be no reproduction of these collectibles once they are sold out," said Diyana at Pos Laju’s headquarters, here.

The stamp series will be released on Oct 22 Oct while in Kedah, it will go on sale on Oct 23.
