Mindef to utilise 2019 Budget allocation prudently – Mat Sabu

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry will be utilising its 2019 Budget allocation prudently to ensure the Malaysia Armed Forces (ATM) is at the highest level of preparedness to preserve the country’s security.

Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu when met by reporters at Parliament last night, said ATM would be looking at the best ways to ensure the RM5.9 billion allocations is used to further improve the operation and deployment of ATM.

Meanwhile, Armed Forces chief Gen Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin in a statement on the ministry’s Instagram site said ATM was very positive with 2019 Budget allocation for ATM as it included the procurement of assets and issues relating to the welfare of armed forces personnel and retirees.

In this regard, ATM Veteran Association president Admiral (R) Tan Sri Anwar Mohd Nor welcomed financial assistance for ATM veterans and did not marginalise them.

“The one-off financial assistance of RM500 to eligible retirees and the special payment of RM250 for government retirees at the end of the year is most welcomed,” said Anwar when contacted.

The Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said he welcomed the measures of the government especially to improve police quarters.

“The welfare of personnel should always be taken care of and providing good and comfortable residence is very important,” he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday. - Bernama
