Not again! Teen seriously hurt by bicycle tyre thrown from upper floor of Gombak PPR

KUALA LUMPUR: A 19-year-old was seriously injured when he was struck on the head by a bicycle tyre which had been flung from an upper floor of the (PPR) Gombak Setia flat here, yesterday.

Muhammad Iqmal Abdul Razak, who lives on the 6th floor of Block 41 of the complex, received 15 stiches to his scalp and suffered a wound to his elbow.

Iqmal had just descended from his unit and was walking along the ground floor, on his way to work, when the incident occurred at 9.30am.

“I was with a friend and we were chatting, when suddenly, I felt like something exploded on my head.

“I instantly felt lightheaded and on the verge of passing out. I felt tremendous pain on my head. I was semi-conscious,” he told NSTP when met at his flat today.

Iqmal said he did not know what had happened, but his friend told him that he was struck on the head by a bicycle tyre which had been thrown from an upper floor.

“I suddenly remembered the recent case of a teenager who died after being struck by a chair thrown from an upper floor of another PPR flat, and I hoped that I would not meet the same fate,” he added.

Luckily for Iqmal, the incident was also witnessed by several DBKL officers who happened to be in the area. The group rushed him to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) for treatment.

A report was later lodged with DBKL and police at the Setapak police station.

Meanwhile, Iqbal’s elder brother, Muhammad Ikram, said he hopes the authorities will take serious action over the incident which could have resulted in his brother’s death.

“This incident may have just resulted in an injury, but what about tomorrow?

“What if someone dies (again) because an irresponsible resident throws out something even more lethal?” he said.
