Learning-centered assessment of year 1,2,3 pupils

PUTRAJAYA: From this year, assessment of Year One, Two and Three pupils will be learning-centred instead of exam-oriented.

Education Director-General Datuk Dr Amin Senin said in a statement today that this alternative assessment took into consideration various factors besides exams to determine a student’s academic growth.

He said the assessment would be made through such activities as discussions, presentations, project work, assignments, practical sessions, observation, portfolios, exhibitions and quizzes.

“This assessment is in line with the 21st century learning methods based on collaboration, creativity, communication, critical thinking and value,” he said.

He said the alternative assessment was also in line with classroom assessment which was one of the components of school-based assessment which is focused on the holistic development of the pupil.

Amin said the alternative assessment could create a learning culture which was more fun and meaningful to pupils compared to formal exams. – BERNAMA
