Kelantan and Terengganu should emulate Pahang government in banning logging activities during rainy season

KOTA BARU: Kelantan and Terengganu should follow measures taken by Pahang government to temporarily freeze forest logging activities during the monsoon season.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the move by Pahang Government should be an example to others as there might be risks if logging activities were allowed to continue.

“Other states should follow measures taken by Pahang Government,” she said.

Dr Wan Azizah who is also the National Flood Disaster Management chairman said this at a Press conference after chairing a meeting on the east-coast flood preparations at Darulnaim Complex here today.

Several representatives from various agencies and departments from the east-coast states attended the meeting which lasting almost two hours.

Dr Wan Azizah said during the meeting, she also reminded all the agencies and departments to take flood preparations as a serious matter.

“These agencies include the police, the army and the fire and rescue department to be prepared for the monsoon season.

“Their assets must be ready to be used anytime,” she said.

Asked whether she was satisfied with the preparation, Dr Wan Azizah said she was happy with the move made by all the three states in the east-coast.

“Praise be to God, I am satisfied with the presentation made by the three states today as they have much experience in facing floods.

“We can only see how the agencies handle the situation once the monsoon season begins. We pray that the floods of 2014 in Kelantan will not recur,” she said.
