Police collect RM3mil in traffic summonses during discount period

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) has collected more than RM3 million after offering a 50 per cent discount to those with outstanding traffic summonses.

City TEID chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said a total of 32,462 summonses were settled by traffic offenders during the discount period from Nov 7 to Nov 9.

“We are glad that traffic offenders took the opportunity to settle their summonses. The response was overwhelming.

"We had a limited number of counters and traffic offenders had to wait for a long time. We will improve on that.

“I would like to advise traffic offenders to settle their summonses fast as they will have pay more if they pay their summonses later," he said when contacted today.

The 50 per cent discount, he added, did not apply to those involved in traffic accidents, those with arrest warrants issued against them, cases that were already in court, summonses issued during Ops Selamat, summonses with a "court status" or summonses involving heavy vehicles.
