Equanimity in Langkawi?

LANGKAWI: Luxury yacht Equanimity which was linked to fugitive businessman Jho Low Teck or Jho Low was reportedly docked at the Royal Malaysian Navy’s Region 3 headquarters in Langkawi.

Langkawi district police chief Superintendent Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim when contacted said the yacht, which sailed from Port Klang, arrived at the base’s harbour at 10.30am.

He however couldn’t confirm the purpose of the sail and the reason for the RM1 billion yacht to be in Langkawi, saying that he had learned about the matter today.

Pictures of Equanimity, which was allegedly one of the assets acquired using 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) fund were shared in Facebook at about 4pm.

NSTP check on website Marine Traffic revealed that the yacht had set sail at 10.18am yesterday with the speed of 8.6 knots.

The latest development has raised questions as it was in the midst of a bidding process.

A Facebook account user who only wanted to be known as Tun Carlos also uploaded two pictures of the yacht which anchored at a harbour in Langkawi.

The High Court (Admiralty) has on Oct 24 ruled that the government and three others are the rightful owners of the luxury yacht, enabling the parties to initiate an auction process.

The superyacht was brought to Malaysia on Aug 7 after the Indonesian authorities handed over it to Malaysia.
