GIACC urged to establish National Integrity and Corporate Governance Index

JOHOR BAHRU: The Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) has been urged to establish a National Integrity and Corporate Governance Index in a bid to set Malaysia Baharu on the right path.

Economic Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, said the index can be by organisations which are based on economics and commerce.

“This (the index) can serve as a reference, benchmark and barometer for the organisations to adopt best integrity practices and good governance,” he said.

Azmin was speaking at the Johor Integrity and Governance Summit 2018 on Thursday.

Also present were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian; state secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani; the exco lineup as well as Johor Corporation (JCorp) president and chief executive officer, Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kassim.

Azmin said it is everyone’s hope that Malaysia Baharu is built on a platform of integrity and excellent governance.

“A country’s progress is measured not only in terms of economic performance but also in its ability to build a community that has integrity, is fair and holds true to good moral values,” he said.

Meanwhile, GIACC director-general, Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, said the organisation will study the recommendation and hold talks with the government to frame relevant strategies and policies.
