GEORGE TOWN: A 4-year-old girl is believed to have drowned while in a swimming pool at the Halaman Kristal Apartment in Lengkok Free School here, on Saturday evening.
Lee Tian Yu died while being rushed to the Penang Hospital after being found unconscious in the pool at about 7pm.
“The victim was unconscious when she (arrived at the hospital).
“Treatment was immediately given – but the victim was (confirmed to have died by a doctor) on the way from the apartment,” said Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Che Zamani Che Awang.
He said it was a routine for Lee’s mother to bring her and her 6-year-old brother to the apartment building – where a friend lives – for a swim.
“(However, according to) the mother, at the time of the incident, the girl was not wearing any safety floats.
“There was also no supervision from any adult,” Zamani said, adding that the case has been classified as “sudden death”.
