DBKL detects falsifications of unit rental offer

KUALA LUMPUR: The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has detected the existence of a housing rent fraud syndicate involving Public Housing (PA) and the People's Housing Project (PPR).

In a statement yesterday, it said DBKL's Community Development and Urban Wellbeing Department (JPKKB) had received several public complaints regarding the forgery of the PA and PPR rental offer letters.

This involved the false signatures of the DBKL JPKKB directors and senior officers on the rental offer letters of the housing unit in Kuala Lumpur.

"The complainants only detected the scams after failing to obtain the keys after the rental offer letters were received," the statement said.

The latest complaints received by DBKL showed that the scam was active in the Lembah Pantai area and the syndicate had deceived the public of between RM5,000 and RM8,000 for each rental offer.

"The modus operandi of those perpetrating the scam was to pass themselves off as agents who can ensure that applicants can rent PA and PPR units supervised by DBKL," the statement said, adding that any suspicious activity or individual should be reported to the police.

DBKL, it said, had never appointed any individual or mediator (agent) for application and registration services as well as any matters pertaining to the rental and purchase of DBKL PA and PPR. -- Bernama
