Kit Siang calls for Najib to be referred to Privileges Committee over tampering with 1MDB audit report

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang has called for Parliament to refer former prime minister Datuk Najib Razak for alleged tampering of the National Audit Department's 1MDB report before it was tabled to the last sitting of the house.

This follows auditor general Tan Sri Dr Madinah Mohamad’s statement saying that Najib and others had instructed for parts of the report to be deleted or revised 2016.

“This is a most shocking disclosure and a total abuse of power which attacks the very basis of parliamentary integrity and which must viewed most seriously by all Malaysians, in particular MPs.

“If it is established that Najib had tampered with the former auditor-general’s audit report on 1MDB, then it is up to the Committee of Privileges to recommend to Parliament what punitive measure should be meted out to Najib,” news portal Malaysiakini quoted Lim as saying in a speech on Sunday.

Besides Najib, others named in Madinah's statement include former 1MDB president Arul Kanda Kandasamy, former auditor general Tan Sri Ambrin Buang, former chief secretary to the government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa and Najib's former private secretary Tan Sri Shukry Salleh.

Parts of the audit report that were allegedly tampered include those on 1MDB's 2014 financial statement and businessman Low Taek Jho’s attendance in a 1MDB board of directors meeting.
