SUBANG JAYA: A member of the Subang Jaya Emergency Response System (EMRS) unit and Fire and Rescue station was seriously injured after being assaulted by rioters at the Sri Maha Mariamman temple at USJ25 here, at 1am today.

Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, 24, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) this morning.

According to a Selangor Fire and Rescue Department spokesman, the victim suffered major internal injuries and bone fractures and is unconscious.

It is learnt that Muhammad Adib and fellow personnel had arrived at the scene to douse a car which had been torched by rioters when he was dragged out of his EMRS van and beaten up by a portion of the 2,000 people who had assembled at the temple.

Muhammad Adib was later rescued by several members of the public, who rushed him to the SJMC for treatment, the spokesman added.

As firefighters were unable to tend to the blaze, the car was completely destroyed.

Meanwhile, two EMRS vans and a fire engine were badly damaged by rioters, who smashed their windows, removed their doors, punctured and dismembered all their tyres and left dents and scratches all along their sides.

This morning, the three vehicles were brought to the USJ8 police station where authorities will assess their condition.
