SUBANG JAYA: Rescuer Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who was critically injured during a fracas at a temple here yesterday, has been transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur.
Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin said Muhammad Adib, who was admitted to the Subang Jaya Medical Centre's Intensive Care Unit, was sent to IJN at about 11.33pm yesterday.
Zuraida said following consultations with IJN, a decision was made to transfer Muhammad Adib to the facility to ensure he received the necessary medical treatment.
"After discussing with four experts from IJN, we proposed for Muhammad Adib to be transferred there because they have the equipment required for his treatment.
"IJN also has a special machine that is able to pump more oxygen into his lungs... it is the only machine available in the country," she said during a press conference here last night.
Zuraida also said Muhammad Adib's condition has improved.
"He has yet to regain consciousness because he has been sedated. However, his blood pressure has improved compared to this afternoon.
"Following a discussion between experts from IJN and heart experts from SJMC, they decided at 10.30pm to transfer Muhammad Adib.
"His family agreed and the hospital transferred Muhammad Adib to IJN immediately," she said.
Muhammad Adib was attacked by a group of rioters at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple in USJ 25, Subang Jaya, at 1am yesterday.
The Emergency Response System (EMRS) officer, who is attached to the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, suffered major internal injuries and bone fractures and is unconscious.
It is learnt that Muhammad Adib and fellow personnel had arrived at the scene to douse a car which had been torched by rioters when he was dragged out of his EMRS van and beaten up by a portion of the 2,000 people who had assembled at the temple.
Muhammad Adib was later rescued by several members of the public, who rushed him to the SJMC for treatment.
