No policeman involved in temple riot, IGP clarifies

CHERAS: Police have denied the involvement of its officer in the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman temple riot in USJ 25, Subang Jaya on Monday.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun issued the denial following the spread of a video claiming one of the rioters was a police officers.

"Checks found that the person was a former police volunteer," Mohamad Fuzi said, adding that the individual was dismissed a long time ago for certain reasons.

"We have checked and the claim (that the person is a police officer) is false," he said at a press conference at the police academy, here, today.

In the nine-second video, a man was seen attempting to control his anger during the riot. The video was shared alongside a photo of the man in police uniform.

In several episodes which initially broke out early Monday morning, 23 vehicles were torched, damages to the temple were reported and windows at One City Mall were also broken and damaged.

A fireman attached to the Subang Jaya fire and rescue station Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim was also injured in the riot, and a police officer sustained a broken arm.
