Digital TV services restored nationwide: Gobind

PUTRAJAYA: Digital TV services, which have been disrupted since Oct 11 in Kelantan, Pahang, Terengganu, Negri Sembilan, Perak, Melaka, Sabah and Sarawak, have been restored and are now accessible to viewers.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo confirmed reports that the service disruption had been due to a commercial dispute between MYTV Broadcasting Sdn Bhd (MYTV) and Telekom Malaysia (TM).

“On Nov 22, I instructed the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to facilitate discussions between (relevant) parties to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

“A series of discussions were (then) held between the MCMC, MYTV and TM in the last few weeks.

“MCMC has reported that MYTV and TM have reached an agreement to resolve their commercial differences to enable digital TV services to be made available by today,” he said in a statement.

Gobind also said he is glad that TM and MYTV reached a resolution, as the rakyat had been deprived of a valuable service.

“Ultimately, service delivery to the people should be given the highest consideration and priority by all service providers,” he added.
