Msia pledges RM500,000 to anti-corruption fund

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today announced that Malaysia has pledged RM500,000 to a special fund for anti-corruption champions who are hurt or killed.

He said it was Malaysia’s way of showing its support for the great work and commitment shown by anti-corruption authorities around the world.

The fund was initiated by the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities.

“We hope this small gesture will start the ball rolling for the foundation to raise more funds to help the families of the fallen heroes,” Dr Mahathir said at the Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony.

Malaysia is the first nation to contribute to the fund.

Dr Mahathir said more initiatives and policies were needed to combat corruption.

“We cannot expect everything to happen over night. This is our struggle.

“We want Malaysia to be known for its integrity and not for its corruption,” he said.

Present was Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani.
