Anti-ICERD rally: Rally-goers from PWTC recite pledge to defend Islam

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak joined hundreds of Anti International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) rally-goers in reciting a pledge of "wala'" (loyalty) to defend the sanctity of Islam and Malay rights.

The reading of the pledge was led by an imam in the PWTC Ar-Rahman surau, where Najib had performed the Zohor prayers with rally-goers.

The congregation also performed the solat hajat and prayed for security of the rally and country.

Among Umno leaders who were at PWTC include party supreme council member Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir and former Johor Baru parliamentarian Tan Sri Shahrir Samad.

Najib, clad in a pink baju melayu, is taking a ride from the PWTC LRT station and will disembark at Masjid Jamek station, which is the nearest station to the rally venue at Dataran Merdeka.

It is yet to be confirmed whether Najib would deliver a speech alongside other political party leaders there, including PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.
