Reform caucus to hold first meeting tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: The new parliamentary caucus on reform and governance chaired by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will hold its first meeting tomorrow.

Caucus member Mohamed Hanipa Maidin told the New Straits Times Press that he was informed by Anwar that the meeting would be held at about 3pm.

“I was informed by Anwar that we will hold our first meeting tomorrow. But I am not sure what the agenda will be like,” said the Sepang member of parliament (MP) when met at the parliament lobby.

Iskandar Puteri MP Lim Kit Siang is the caucus’s deputy chairman.

Other than Hanipa, the caucus members are Jeli MP Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (PH); Sungai Petani MP Datuk Johari Abdul (PH); Segamat MP Santhara Kumar Ramanaidu (PH); Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah (PH); Kalabakan MP Ma’mun Sulaiman (Warisan); Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (Barisan Nasional); Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz (BN); Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu); Kubang Kerian MP Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (Pas).

It is understood that the caucus would look into empowering the parliament as branch of the government responsible in instituting reforms in all aspects of the administration.

The caucus has also been hailed as the government’s first step in creating stronger “institution of checks-and-balances”.

The caucus will be Anwar’s first major role as part of the administration after his return to the parliament following a landslide victory in the Port Dickson by-election.
