Unity govt remains harmonious despite differences in opinion - Fahmi

KUALA LUMPUR: The unity government remains united despite calls for DAP to do away with provocative statements that would disrupt the status quo by an Umno leader.

Government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil assured that as the government comprises multiple parties who have different stances, differences in opinions are expected and celebrated.

He said the unity government has systems in place to discuss the differences in stance, struggles and manifestos through the unity government leadership consultative council.

"In the unity government leadership consultative council, we have a committee that discusses the manifestos (of all parties in the government).

"That is a platform built for purpose, fit for purpose where we would scrutinise policy issues including manifestos.

"It is important because when we form the government, it is made of different parties. We celebrate differences in opinion and our leadership is mature enough and we have processes in place to discuss," he said after launching a subscriber-based television and content distributor, OK Vision, here today.

Earlier today, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh slammed Lim Kit Siang for his remarks on the prospects of a non-Malay prime minister, and Tan Kok Wai for mooting local council polls in Kuala Lumpur.

He said their statement could cause disunity as it is akin to intentional provocation against the status quo, adding that some within the unity government are uncomfortable with these statements.
