Cash assistance to low-income group to be disbursed after Chinese New Year

KUALA LUMPUR: Cost of Living Aid (BSH) for the low-income group for next year will be disbursed after the Chinese New Year celebration.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the government was currently in the midst of collecting data on eligible recipients.

“We have adopted a new approach (on disbursing the monies) and so we need time to collect the data (on the recipients).

“As I have announced during the tabling of the 2019 Budget, we have a new method to go about it (on collecting data).

“I have been informed that the aid can only be disbursed after Chinese New Year. It will be paid out,” Lim said when met at the parliament lobby today.

The BSH was formerly known as the 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M).

During the tabling of the budget, Lim said under the aid, households earning RM2,000 and below would receive cash assistance of RM1,000.

He also said the government would introduce an additional BSH assistance of RM120 for each child aged 18 and below for B40, limited to four children.
