Agri Ministry vows to address egg shortage

IPOH: A supply shortage has caused the recent increase in the prices of eggs of various grades in several states, it was disclosed here today.

Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Salahuddin Ayub said an increase in the export volume was one of the reasons for the shortage.

“Also, diseases that have affected the poultry industry, such as bird flu, are another reason for the shortage of supply,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Amanah National Convention 2018 here.

Salahuddin said the ministry, in collaboration with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, will take the appropriate action via an established joint committee to address the increase in the prices of eggs.

He gave the assurance that the ministry will overcome the problem of shortage of eggs soon. – BERNAMA
