Imam reunited with classic motorcycle after appeal to 'honourable thief'

MELAKA: Less than 24 hours after a former imam had appealed for the “honourable thief” to return his favourite old Honda motorcycle, the vehicle was found in Melaka Tengah today.

Mohamad Jonid Hitam, 79, had reported the classic motorcycle stolen from Kampung Lendu Pekan in Alor Gajah two weeks ago and police had not been making any headway in the case.

That was when Jonid decided to make an appeal in Harian Metro for whomever took the motorcycle to return it to him as he was rather attached to it.

“I was shocked today when police called me to say that my motorcycle had been found somewhere in Krubong. I am surprised that it ended up all the way in Melaka Tengah.

“Whatever it is, I am grateful for all the help I received in finding the motorcycle,” he said when met at the Tanjung Minyak police station.

Jonid said he was touched by all the feedback he received after his appeal and telephone number were printed in Harian Metro.

The motorcycle was parked in front of his house and went missing when he went for maghrib prayers at a nearby surau.

He said the motorcycle, with the registration number ML 9393, held great sentimental value for him as he had owned it for decades and had used it with his first wife who had died some time ago.
