KUALA TERENGGANU: More people are being evacuated due to floods in Terengganu, with the latest tally at 1,023 people from 261 families at 8am today, from 781 people from 203 families last night.
A total of 14 flood relief centres have been opened in four districts in the state to accommodate the evacuees, with four centres each in the districts of Marang, Setiu and Kuala Terengganu and two centres in the Kuala Nerus district.
The high tide phenomenon and rain last night caused more areas to be flooded in Marang, with the number of evacuees increasing to 553 people, from 439 people.
According to the Social Welfare Department portal, the number of evacuees in Kuala Terengganu has increased to 299 people from 181 people, and Kuala Nerus, to 144 people from 134 people at 7pm yesterday.
In Setiu, the number of evacuees remained at 27 people. – BERNAMA
