Free trishaw license renewal in Melaka next year

MELAKA: The state government will be exempting the fees for trishaw license renewal for 325 licensed trishaw operators in Melaka next year.

Chief Minister Adly Zahari said the move was to appreciate and recognise the contributions by trishaw operators who serve as little ambassadors for Melaka in promoting tourism in the state.

"Trishaw operators have contributed a lot to the development of tourism in Melaka and we need their services to ensure government programmes are successfully carried out," he said, informing that there would be other initiatives to be implemented for these trishaw operators.

Apart from that, Adly called on all trishaw operators to play "Dondang Sayang" instead of contemporary music when they are out and about taking tourists in their three-wheelers.

"The time has come for us to be proud of Melaka's Dondang Sayang melody and not contemporary songs, as is the practise today," he said.

Adly said this after officiating a programme to recognise the contributions of veteran trishaw operators in Melaka held at the Perzim auditorium in Banda Hilir, here, today.

At the event, 54 veteran trishaw operators received a contribution of RM200 each.

Also present was state tourism, culture and heritage exco Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis.
