PUTRAJAYA: Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) will be developed and more businesswomen will get help to expand their businesses, said Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Dr Mahathir, who is also the prime minister, said the New Economic Policy had shown that women were more serious in what they do and eventually became more successful than men.
"Some of them have become millionaires by making keropok lekor, selling scarves and cosmetics.
"Some of them also managed to produce food with long expiry dates that are packed nicely.
"It shows that if they were given more opportunities, they are likely to succeed," he said in his policy speech at Bersatu second general assembly today.
Therefore, Dr Mahathir said more capital, opportunities, licences and contracts would be given to women, including those in rural areas.
"We will introduce new business and opportunities to them.
"(And) to increase their abilities, training and lessons will be provided.
"Therefore, AIM will be expanded and more businesswomen will be helped to expand their businesses."
