Sultan Abdullah: If it's written that I'd be King, then I'll be [NSTTV]

KUANTAN: Yesterday, the nation rejoiced when Pahang Crown Prince Tengku Abdullah was proclaimed as the Sixth Sultan of Pahang, effective immediately, succeeding his father Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Many netizens have turned to social media platforms to congratulate the Regent of Pahang on his appointment as the state’s new ruler.

This morning after Subuh prayers at Imam Ash Shafie mosque in Kota SAS, he was asked the question of the hour, which is the possibility of him being appointed as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong

He replied: “If it’s written that I would be there, then that’s where I’ll be (as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong). It’s in Surah Yaasin, verse 82, we’d understand if we read it.”

The verse 82 that he mentioned was Innama amruhu idza arada syaian an yaqula lahu kun fayakun which translates to: His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, ‘Be’, and it is.

Sultan Abdullah said he was currently focusing on his installation and swearing-in ceremony as the sixth Sultan of Pahang at Istana Abu Bakar in Pekan on Tuesday.

“After that, I will think of what I need to do. At this moment, I can’t say anything on that (of being the next Yang di-Pertuan Agong),” he said.

The Conference of Rulers had fixed Jan 24 for a meeting to select the new king and Jan 31 for the oath-taking ceremony, following an unprecedented move by Sultan Muhammad V to step down on Sunday.

In the meantime, Sultan Abdullah said he was deeply moved and has mixed feelings but grateful to be the Sultan of Pahang and to receive such trust from his father, his siblings and the people.

“This is a great responsibility and I will try to give the best to Pahang people. I don’t want to promise anything at the moment, but I will give my all in everything I do,” he said.

He said his main focus was absolutely to ensure the well-being of the people and to work with Federal Government and state government which are administered by two different parties.

“Regardless of which government, we must have a good relationship to help the people.

“I will do everything in the context of the power given to the Constitutional Monarchy and I need a lot of advice, views and harsh criticisms,” he said.
