Three in family killed in Gua Musang car-lorry collision

GUA MUSANG: A family of three was killed on-the-spot when the vehicle they were travelling in crashed into a lorry laden with groceries at Km63 of Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai here, this morning.

The deceased in the 8.35am accident were identified as Perodua Viva driver Siti Rashida Aidrus, 21, her father Aidrus Ibrahim, 72 and her mother, Gayah Che Hassan, 65, all from Kampung Awah, Paloh Rawa, Machang.

The lorry driver and his two attendants, whose names have not been ascertained, sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the Gua Musang Hospital (HGM).

It is learnt that the accident occurred when the Perodua Viva driver lost control of the car and veered into the opposite lane, before colliding head-on with the lorry travelling from Kuala Krai to Gua Musang.

“All three were trapped in the half-crushed car and had to be extricated by firefighters. The trio died at the scene due to severe head injuries,” said district police chief Superintendent Mohd Taufik Maidin.

He added that the bodies were sent to the HGM for post-mortems.

Meanwhile, Gua Musang Fire and Rescue station chief assistant superintendent Anuar Abas said they received a call about the accident at around 8.47am.

He said three fire engines with 11 personnel were rushed to the scene. The firefighters managed to extricate all victims within half an hour.
