Works Ministry to expand slope maintenance, rehabilitative works on roads leading to Camerons

TANAH RATA: The slope maintenance and rehabilitative works on roads leading to Cameron Highlands will be expended to enhance safety as well as comfort of both locals and tourists.

Its Minister Baru Bian said the authorities had identified 10 locations requiring work in the form of slope maintenance and another 59 locations which required work done in the form of slope preventive nature.

He revealed that the slope maintenance work involving Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands would involve a cost of RM19.4 million.

“The FT059 Federal road between Tapah and Cameron Highlands is the main link. Even though it is an old road, the ministry will continue to provide the necessary attention in regards to its slope maintenance.

“In addition to this, the alternative link of FT185 of Jalan Simpang Pulai - Blue Valley - Lojing - Gua Musang and the FT102 link of Jalan Pos Betau - Lembah Bertam linking Cameron Highlands will also see work being undertaken," he said.

Last year, he said his ministry had completed slope rehabilitation maintenance work at one location and preventive work at 30 other locations involving a cost of RM9.3 million.

Baru said the rehabilitative and preventive slope works was also undertaken along Jalan Tapah - Cameron Highlands, linking the Batang Padang district in Perak and Cameron Highlands district in Pahang.

"The Ministry continues to pay close attention and is committed in maintaining roads and slopes for the benefit and safety of road users not only along Jalan Tapah - Cameron Highlands (FT059) but nationwide as well," he said.

Earlier today, the minister, checked the FT059 Jalan Tapah - Cameron Highlands federal road at Batang Padang and also visited two slope maintenance work locations at Section 36 and Section 17.9 which were being implemented by his ministry.

Elaborating further, Baru said, besides slope maintenance work, the ministry has also undertaken assessment and mapping of hazard and risk levels along federal roads.

This is done through data collection as well as utilising the latest technologies such as Light Detection and Ranging technology (LIDAR) and the Early Warning System (EWS), he said.
