Foreign workers' applications: HR ministry may go fully online [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA : The Human Resources Ministry is considering to fully adopt an online system with regard to foreign workers' applications and matters that require monetary transaction.

Its minister M. Kulasegaran said by doing so, it would reduce officers having to deal with the public directly which could lead to corruption.

“My mandate to the staff in this ministry is to strive for zero-corruption, which has been an issue under the past government. We do not want to embrace the problem but to totally eradicate it.

“One of the proposals is to use online system for applications related to the ministry which involve money. This is to prevent officers from meeting or being exposed to any sources that can lead to corruption, especially when dealing with applications for foreign workers.

“Such a move is indirectly in line with the current government’s aspiration for all civil servants to fight corruption, abuse of power and embezzlement,” he told reporters after delivering his 2019 New Year mandate to the ministry’s staff, here.

Also present was his deputy Datuk Mahfuz Omar.

Aside from corruption, Kulasegaran also stressed on seven improvements which the ministry could embark on including providing fast services to the people.

“For instance, we must give feedback to every query and problem submitted to the ministry within 48 hours.

"Also, we are expecting about one million workers to be in various unions by 2020. Workers’ unions are important to represent the employees in various matters, especially concerning their welfare and economy," he said.
