KUALA LUMPUR: The Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry wants the plantation and manufacturing sectors to reuse treated effluents to produce bio products while supporting management of water resources in a more integrated manner.
Its minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar said they should not be afraid of doing this because the technology available in the country was on par with more advanced nations.
“Much research has been done on producing products from treated effluents, like fertilisers, clean water and biogas (for electricity generation by Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) Sdn Bhd,” he said in a statement here today.
Meanwhile, IWK chief executive officer Faizal Othman in the same statement said that clean water obtained from treated effluents can reduce dependence on existing water resources, especially for non-drinking purposes.
