Pahang residents proud their Sultan is now the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong

KUANTAN: The appointment of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Sultan Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah as the new King has brought much pride to residents in the state.

Those interviewed said they were proud the new Yang Di-Pertuan Agong was from Pahang, and that he was a ruler who is close to the people.

An eatery operator, Wan Rahaimi Wan Mokhtar, 56, said he prayed that the appointment would bring prosperity to the state.

“I am proud that our sultan is now the King...I pray for his health and prosperity,” he said.

General worker, G Kasthuri, said Al Sultan Abdullah was known as a people’s ruler and his appointment was timely.

he 35-year old from Kuala Lipis, Lipis, said she too was proud that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong was from Pahang.

Self employed, Nor Laila Ariffin, 48, said Al Sultan Abdullah was a people centric person and would rule justly and fairly.

“We have seen that he is always on the ground whenever there are tragedies like floods or fires,” she said, adding the ruler was also not particular about protocols when mingling with the people.

Trader, Abdul Jabbar Abdul Rahman, 71, said he had fond memories of the King, having met him once previously.

“He was very down to earth and asked about my wellbeing.

“I wish him the best,” he said.

Meanwhile, businessman Loo Chee Seng, 56, said Al Sultan Abdullah had vast experience and his appointment as the new King was most appropriate.

He said Al Sultan Abdullah had learned much from Sultan Ahmad Shah on how to manage affairs of the state.

“We are all proud that he is now our Yang Di-Pertuan Agong,” he said.
