Three outlets selling fake goods raided

SHAH ALAM: IT'S end of the road for three premises which had been selling various fake goods openly since last year in this city and Klang, when enforcement officers from the Selangor Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) raided their premises yesterday.

In the raids that started at 3pm, a total of 410 counterfeit items involving apparels, bags, watches and popular accessory brands worth RM9,724 were seized.

Selangor KPDNHEP chief enforcement officer Azman Adam said the raid followed intelligence work and complaints from trademark representatives on irresponsible activities that rake in profits without following procedures.

He said the trademarks involved were the Puma, Burberry, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger brands.

"The raids revealed that the premise owners had the audacity to sell the fake items openly.

"The selling price was lower to attract people to buy the fake stuff," he said.

Azman said further investigations found that a premise in Klang had continued to sell fake goods despite being raided a few times and action taken.

He pointed out that the high demand for fake goods prompted traders to disregard the ban to make a fast buck.

"The case is being investigated under Section 8 (2)(b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 which provides for up to RM15,000 fine per item for each count.

"The individual can be jailed for up to three years or a fine not exceeding RM10,000 for each fake goods or both, upon conviction," he added.
