RON95 and RON97 cheaper by 5 sen, diesel unchanged

PUTRAJAYA: Vehicle owners who fill up their tanks with RON95 and RON97 petrol will enjoy cheaper fuel throughout the first week of February, starting from midnight.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said from tomorrow to Feb 8, the retail pump price for both petrol grades would be 5 sen cheaper, with RON95 now selling at RM1.93 per litre compared to RM1.98 per litre previously and RON 97 will go for RM2.23 per litre (RM2.28 per litre previously).

Diesel remains at RM2.18 per litre, he added.

“The cheaper price of RON95 is due to lower prices of refined products at the global market contributed by higher output of such products in the world market.

“The bigger difference of product cost for diesel is due to higher demand for diesel product, especially in China,” said Lim in a statement today.

The minister said the government would not let up in its efforts to implement the price stabilisation programme for petrol products and fix the prices at rates that would not burden the people.

“This means when the global fuel prices drop, the retail prices for petroleum will also be lowered so that consumers can enjoy the cheaper fuel prices fast,” he said.

However, he said, should the fuel prices went up beyond the fixed level, the government would take measures to stabilise the retail prices of RON95 and diesel by capping them at RM2.20 per litre and RM2.18 per litre respectively.
