HSR compensation: Deputy minister says no official statement until final decision reached

JITRA: Malaysia is still in the midst of negotiation with Singapore on the compensation following the postponement of the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Amiruddin Hamzah said the ministry will not be issuing any statement until a decision has been reached by both countries.

"The postponement of the HSR project involves a government to government (G2G) discussion, I think we shall wait for an official statement.

"When we are ready and matters have been finalised, we will inform," Amiruddin said when met by reporters after a Kubang Pasu parliamentary constitutency Chinese New Year walkabout at the Chinese Market, here, today.

He also declined to comment on the quantum of the compensation.

Yesterday, Singapore's Transport Ministry said Malaysia had already remitted the payment for abortive costs pertaining to the postponement of the project.

A spokesman from the ministry in a statement said Singapore had already obtained a confirmation from the Malaysian government through diplomatic correspondent on the payment.
