73 summonses issued in Sabah 'Ops Bersepadu'

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah's Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) issued 73 summonses for various offences in the Ops Bersepadu Kenderaan Perkhidmatan Awam dan Ops Bas Ekspres last night.

The two-hour operation began at 7.30pm at Jalan Tuaran near Taman Putrajaya, Telipok, near here.

JSPT deputy head Deputy Superintendent Parum Niot, said 146 vehicles of various types were inspected, of which 73 were issued summonses for various offences.

"The most number of offences were failed third brake lights (35), followed by registration numbers modification (6), no driving licence (5), expired driving licence (5), no insurance coverage (5) and not wearing seatbelts (5).

"Other offences were failure to produce driving licences (3), headlights glare (2), exhaust (2), no road tax (2), not putting up road tax (1), overloading passengers (1), and structure/accessory modification (1).

"In addition, 16 summonses were issued by the Road Transport Department (JPJ)," he said when met.

Parum said the operation focused on public transport vehicles such as express buses and mini buses, but no offence was recorded.

"No untoward incidents happened during the operation, which was carried out to ensure drivers comply to traffic regulations.

"Integrated operations with RTD officers will be conducted from time to time and we hope everything will be safe and sound throughout the Chinese New Year celebration," he added.
