Banting schoolkid who attempted suicide now under psychiatric observation

BANTING: The student who tried to commit suicide at a secondary school here, yesterday is now under psychiatric observation for a rehabilitation session.

Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Azizan Tukiman said the 13-year-old male student has been allowed to return home after receiving treatment at the Banting Hospital.

"The student was allowed to go home yesterday after being treated for injuries to his arm.

"However, he has been placed under the observation of a psychiatric specialist from the Banting Hospital for counselling and rehabilitation sessions," he said.

Azizan added that police have not received a report from the school or the boy's parents on the incident.

"If a police report is lodged, investigation papers will be opened under Section 309 of the Penal Code," he said.

Yesterday, the boy made headlines after he was spotted climbing onto the school's roof in a bid to commit suicide after an allegedly failed romance.

In the 1.30pm incident, the boy was rescued after he was coaxed out of his suicide bid for about 30 minutes with the help of officers from the Civil Defence Force and the Fire and Rescue Department.

The boy sustained light injuries to his arm during the rescue attempt and was taken to the Banting Hospital for treatment.

It was said that the boy had also written a note prior to climbing onto the roof, detailing why he planned to end his life.
