Firemen rescue suicidal woman from 9th floor

KLANG: A woman who threatened to jump from the 9th floor of a flat in Pandamaran Jaya here today was believed to be suffering from stress following disagreements with her family.

The 34-year-old woman had been sitting with her legs dangling from the ledge of Block B of Taman Permai Indah Flats, before she was rescued by firemen who talked her out of taking her own life.

Sungai Pinang Fire and Rescue Department chief Bonny Martin said they received a call from the public at about 11am.

A team of seven firemen led by operations chief Rosdi A. Rashid arrived at the scene, some 15 kilometres away from the station, about half an hour later.

They were assisted by the Port Klang Fire and Rescue Department.

"The woman had been sitting on the 9th floor ledge for about 30 minutes. It took my men, along with the woman's mother-in-law, about 10 to 15 minutes to distract her and convince her not to jump," said Martin.

“The woman said she wanted to end her life as she was depressed due to family problems.

He added the rescue team managed to pull her away from the ledge before taking her to the police station at 12.17pm.
