Four Chinese tourists injured as bus overturns in Kota Belud

KOTA BELUD: Four tourists from China were injured when the tour bus they were travelling in skidded and overturned into a roadside drain near Kampung Sesapang along Jalan Kota Belud-Kota Marudu here, today.

One of the victims, aged 37, suffered serious injuries in the 9.30am accident.

It is learnt that the bus, which was en route from Kota Kinabalu to Kampung Rampayan, was carrying 18 passengers, including 16 Chinese tourists, aged between 27 and 49.

Twelve passengers, including the driver and his assistant, escaped unharmed.

A preliminary police investigation found that the driver had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to swerve into the drain and overturning.

“The injured victims were taken to the district hospital.

“Based on our check, the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.

“The accident is being investigated under Section 43 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and negligent driving,” district police chief Superintendent Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said today.
