Massive jam on KL-Karak Highway as bus overturns, 5 injured

KUALA LUMPUR: An accident involving an express bus along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway has left five people injured and caused a massive traffic jam.

The bus, carrying 16 passengers including four foreigners overturned near the Lentang R&R (rest and recreational) area, obstructing all lanes on the highway towards the east coast.

Bentong Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Badrul Hisham Saari said they received a distress call at 7.53 am. Five fire engines were dispatched to the site and arrived at 8.12am.

"We managed to extract a woman who was stuck and send her to the Bentong Hospital," he said.

Another woman and three men were also sent to the same hospital.

Earlier, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) reported a 4.7km crawl along the highway where the accident happened due to efforts to move the bus.

Congestion on the opposite side of the highway stretched for 2.2km as traffic was being diverted.

Efforts to move the overturned bus are still underway.
