GEORGE TOWN: The Penangite who was one of the victims in the terror attack in New Zealand, Rahimi Ahmad, went under the knife to remove fragmented bullet today.

This was confirmed by state Caring Society and Welfare Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh who updated on the 39 year old’s condition to the media via messages.

“Rahimi has just been operated again to remove the fragmented bullet which spread out and on the spine.

“There is still some balance and he will be operated again this Wednesday,” he said today.

The attacks, which took place on Friday at two mosques in Christchurch, resulted in 49 deaths with Rahimi amongst the survivors.

Rahimi works as a technician in a factory there while his wife Noor Azila Mohammad is pursuing her studies. The family has been staying in New Zealand for more than four years now.

Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz said following the operation today, Rahimi is in stable condition.

“The operation procedure must be done carefully as it involves the spinal cord. We are grateful he is stable now,” he added.
